Public opinion poll
"Minister sinks SD and shakes government": If a general election was to be held right now, the opposition Democrats (SDS) would win it ahead of the ruling Freedom Movement, while the coalition Social Democrats (SD), which were in third place in the previous Mediana poll, would not even make it to parliament. Bloudek Prize for sporting achievements
"Prizes to Lanišek, Penca, Orel and Ekar": The 2023 Bloudek Prize, the nation's top sports prize for sporting achievements, went to ski jumper Anže Lanišek. The prizes for lifetime achievements went to sports literature author Janez Penca, sports professor and event organiser Vojko Orel, and climber and mountain rescuer Franc Ekar. (front page)

"Days of mountain film": The 18th Mountain Film Festival opens today, bringing until Saturday a diverse programme of mountain-related films, lectures and talks in Ljubljana, Celje, Radovljica and Domžale. (front page, 6)

Dobrunje men's prison
"Minister orders revision of construction": Justice Minister Dominika Švarc Pipan has ordered revision of the implementation of the EUR 73 million contract to construct a men's prison in Dobrunje, east of Ljubljana. The ministry says that the minister learned about alleged irregularities only at the end of January. (front page, 6)
Long-term care
"Disappointment from get-go: procedure too long and not user-friendly": The right to a carer of a family member, the first in a number of rights brought by the long-term care act, is applicable as of this year, but remains to be implemented in practice. Potential beneficiaries could be waiting for a long time for their applications to be approved. (front page, 2)

Kurentovanje carnival
"We would not miss that": Ptuj was again overwhelmed by crowds from near and afar who wanted to see the traditional carnival procession featuring the Kurenti figures, which did their job in chasing winter away. (front page, 6-7)
Security
"Numerous allegations against leadership of SPC": Irregularities have been found as part of supervision over the work of the Security and Protection Centre, the part of the police force in charge of technical and physical protection of persons and facilities. The police commissioner has been proposed to replace the leadership of the centre. (front page, 4)
Balkan Warrior case
"Balkan Warrior file closed": The high-profile Balkan Warrior drug trafficking case is closed as it become statute barred in January, which is relevant only for the sole defendant who did not admit guilt last year after the lengthy proceedings. (front page, 8)
Retail
"Wages in retail are higher": The majority of retailers have raised the basic wages of their employees above the minimum wage, which also makes bonuses higher. This is not expected to impact their margins and profits. (front page, 2-3)
Football
"Violets with a thunderous start": The Maribor football club started the second half of the season with a 7:0 drubbing of Aluminij from Kidričevo to jump to the third place in the national championship standings. (front page, 13)
