Funding approved to improve bilingual education
Ljubljana, 2 April - The Cohesion and Regional Development Ministry has approved funding for a project to improve the quality of bilingual education for the Hungarian minority in Slovenia and Slovenian minority in Hungary. The European Social Fund will contribute EUR 323,000 of the EUR 380,000 in project funds.
With the help of the funding, the Pomurje Hungarian Self-Governing Community will organise various activities and workshops to strengthen bilingual education, improve the positive attitude towards the Hungarian and Slovenian language, and encourage the preservation of cultural heritage, the ministry said.
The project aims to upgrade the language support for mother tongue with new teaching styles and methods. It also strives to improve the skills and practices of teaching in a bilingual environment, which will, according to the ministry, increase the quality and effectiveness of the bilingual education system.
