Tadej Pogačar wins queen stage at Giro

BORMIO, Italy - Slovenian cycling ace Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) won stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia to double his lead in the GC to 6 minutes 42 seconds. In the last few kilometres Pogačar overtook the leading Columbian Nairo Quintana (Movistar) who finished second. Germany's Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost) came in third.

Slovenia wins 6 medals at European Canoe Slalom Championship in Tacen

TACEN - After Slovenia won the women's team kayak event on Saturday, Slovenian canoeists have scored a triple win at the European Canoe Slalom Championship on Sunday as Žiga Lin Hočevar took first place in the individual event, followed by Luka Božič and Benjamin Savšek. Slovenia also won the men's team event and took second place in the women's team event.

Slovenians less likely to marry or divorce than average European

LJUBLJANA - The share of Slovenians aged 65 and over in Slovenia has increased from 14.8% to 21.5% in the last 20 years, shows the Eurostat publication Demography of Europe. Slovenians are less likely to get married than the average European but also less likely to get divorced.

Honey production down by 88% in 2023

LJUBLJANA - Slovenia's honey production dropped by 88.1% in 2023 compared to 2022. The production of milk, beef and pork also decreased, while production was up for poultry by 3% and eggs by 4.8%, data by the Statistics Office shows.

Slovenian native dog breed celebrated at Štanjel Castle

ŠTANJEL - The Karst Shepherd, the only Slovenian native dog breed, was celebrated on Sunday at the Štanjel Castle in western Slovenia. Two Karst Shepherds were handed to the Slovenian Armed Forces for the ceremonial duties of the guard of honour.
