Fajon urges resolution of remaining Yugoslavia succession issues

LJUBLJANA - Twenty years to the day since the Yugoslavia succession treaty entered into force, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon urged successor states - Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and North Macedonia - to muster the political will and wisdom to resolve the remaining open issues to the benefit of their citizens. Settling the open issues remains a priority of Slovenia's foreign policy, she said in a video statement, as she stressed Slovenia's determination to continue promoting regular dialogue between the successor states at all levels.

Tonin urges membership to make sure centre right wins EU election

RIBNICA - New Slovenia (NSi) leader Matej Tonin urged the opposition party's membership at their annual get-together to do all in their power for centre-right parties to win the EU election. He believes the NSi is "on the brink of two seats" in the EU parliament, while it has one now. Tonin, the NSi's lead candidate, also congratulated the Democrats (SDS) on the four seats the opinion polls show the fellow opposition party is to win of the nine Slovenia has. The SDS has now two MEPs.

Insurance premiums down due to abolishment of top-up insurance

LJUBLJANA - Slovenian insurance companies wrote nearly EUR 639 million in gross premiums in the first three months of 2024, down 12% compared to the same period in 2023. This is largely due to the abolishment of top-up health insurance, the Insurance Supervision Agency said. If insurance companies collected EUR 175 million in healthcare premiums in the first quarter of 2023, they collected only EUR 15 million in the same period this year.
