Pogačar wins his third Tour de France

NICE, France - Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) won his third Tour de France, finishing the grand tour with a 6:17 lead over his long-standing rival, Dane Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike). Pogačar won 6 stages of the Tour, wearing the yellow jersey in all but three stages. In addition to the Tour, Pogačar also won the Giro d'Italia this year, a double feat last achieved in 1998.

Bangladeshi community rally in support of student protests

LJUBLJANA - Bangladeshi community in Slovenia staged a rally in support of student protests in their country. Bangladeshi students have been on the streets for weeks, demanding changes to a quota system in the hiring in the public sector. Photos shared on Facebook show a few dozen people rallying in Ljubljana city centre, carrying banners expressing solidarity with Bangladeshi students.

Clearup works underway following Friday storms

PREDDVOR/LOGARSKA DOLINA/KRŠKO - Local authorities and dozens of volunteers were helping for the second day the residents of Kokra, a village some 10 kilometres north of Kranj that sustained significant damage after strong rainfall triggered a landslide that damaged several houses, leaving two uninhabitable. Clearup works were underway in other parts of the country affected by the storm as well.

Minority writer Rebula commemorated by Slovenians in Italy

TRIESTE, Italy - The Slovenian community in Italy honoured the acclaimed writer Alojz Rebula (1924-2018), marking 100 years since his birth with a memorial plaque at his home in the village of San Pelagio north-west of Trieste. The ceremony was addressed by former President Borut Pahor and preceded by a mass given by Archbishop of Gorizia Carlo Roberto Maria Radaelli.
