Two Carinthian Slovenians to get highest state decoration

Klagenfurt, 3 August - Bernard Sadovnik and Ingrid Gasser, prominent members of the Slovenian minority in the Austrian federal state of Carinthia, will be honoured with the Grand Badge of Honour of Carinthia, the Slovenian media in Carinthia have reported.

Sadovnik is the president of the Community of Carinthian Slovenians (SKS) and the mayor of Globasnitz (Globasnica), while Gasser heads the Kulturwerkstatt Gasser cultural workshop in Ludmannsdorf (BilĨovs).

The decision to honour Sadovnik and Gasser was made by the Carinthian government in Klagenfurt in mid-July, while the date on which the recognitions will be awarded is yet to be determined.

They will receive the highest decoration in Carinthia for advocated for the overall development of Carinthia in their respective fields.

Sadovnik has been active in politics as the president of one of the umbrella organisations of Carinthian Slovenes and as the mayor of Globasnitz, and Gasser has been active in the field of culture.

They have been congratulated by the National Council of Carinthian Slovenians (NSKS), another umbrella organisation of the Slovenian minority, which wished them to continue to work on the promotion of the Slovenian community in Carinthia.
