Janja Garnbret Olympic champion in women's boulder & lead

PARIS, France - Slovenia's climbing superstar Janja Garnbret, who won gold at the combined event at Tokyo 2020, bagged another Olympic gold medal to put in her trophy case. She finished first in the women's boulder & lead final at the Olympic Games in Paris to win a third medal for Slovenia at this year's Games. Garnbret said in her initial statement for the public broadcaster RTV Slovenija: "It is hard to describe what I feel. A weight is off my shoulders. What I went through today is not easy...I did the best climb of my life." She is now in elite company of Slovenian athletes who have won Olympic gold more than once.

Luka Koper gets green light for passenger terminal, says report

KOPER - Luka Koper, the operator of Slovenia's sole maritime port, obtained a building permit for a new passenger terminal this week, the newspaper Delo reported. Construction is due to start in November, and local builder Makro 5 Gradnje is the company Luka Koper picked as contractor. The project is estimated at EUR 2.99 million without tax, or EUR 3.65 million including VAT. The new facility is expected to open next spring, as the port operator would like to have it ready by the start of the next cruise ship season.

Zorn and GIC Gradnje publish takeover bid for savings bank

LJUBLJANA - Businessman Otmar Zorn and the companies Zorn Plus and GIC Gradnje published a takeover bid for Hranilnica Lon, a small savings bank, in today's edition of the newspaper Delo. They offered to pay EUR 75 per share, but they did not announce how many shares must be bought for the bid, which is on until 8 October, to be successful. Before announcing their takeover intention in mid-July, Zorn held a 21.03% stake in Lon and the construction company GIC Gradnje a 20.28% stake, the two of them being the largest single shareholders in the savings bank.
