EU funds for project for bilingual education approved
Ljubljana, 14 August - The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has cleared EU funds for a project to raise the quality of bilingual education for the Italian ethnic community in Slovenia and the Slovenian in Italy. The project is part of cohesion policy programmes in 2021-2027. It is worth nearly EUR 380,000 with the EU chipping in some EUR 152,000.
The project offers activities to promote bilingual education and new approaches to training while also encouraging the preservation of cultural heritage.
The EU funds for it will come from the European Social Fund Plus, the ministry said on Wednesday.
As part of the project, the Italian community, living on the Slovenian coast, will prepare a number of activities and workshops to enrich bilingual education while taking care of strengthening the positive attitude to the Italian and Slovenian languages and preserving the cultural heritage.
The ministry said the project will contribute to accepting differences, while it encourages intercultural dialogue and social inclusion of the youth on both sides of the Slovenian-Italian border.
