Slovenian apple growers in for very good harvest

LJUBLJANA - Slovenian apple producers are looking forward to a bountiful harvest and high sales prices this autumn, as the rest of Europe is in for one of the poorest yields in a long time. Slovenian apple growers expect to produce some 59,000 tonnes of apples this year, which would be 25% more than last year and 18% more than in 2022.

Fire in S Slovenia contained, rain forecast brings hope

KOČEVJE - Firefighters in southern Slovenia continue to battle a wildfire near Kočevje stretching across some 25 hectares of mostly inaccessible terrain. The flames were contained Saturday afternoon and the situation improved slightly overnight, with the firefighters eagerly anticipating heavy rainfall forecast for Sunday afternoon and Monday.

Long tailbacks reported on Austria-bound roads

LJUBLJANA - Long tailbacks and congestions were reported from across the country, with the situation worst at the two main border crossing with Austria: at the Karavanke tunnel the tailback was 12 kilometres long and in Šentilj the tailback stretched back 10 kilometres. Congestions were reported at several other Austria-bound roads, as well as at multiple motorway sections and popular tourist destinations.
