Long tailbacks reported on Austria-bound roads

Ljubljana, 18 August - Long tailbacks and congestions are reported from several parts of the country and will likely grow even longer later on. The situation is the worst at the two main border crossing with Austria: the tailback before the Karavanke tunnel was 12 kilometres long by noon, and in Šentil the tailback was some 8 kilometres long.

To reduce the tailback at Karavanke tunnel, motorists are advised to cross into Austria via the Ljubelj mountain pass. This is causing congestion along the Tržič-Ljubelj road, while the tunnel at the top of the pass is being closed periodically for safety reasons.

Those travelling to Jesenice or further west the Upper Sava Valley are advised to leave the motorway in Lesce so as not to get stuck in the Karavanke tailback. The exit Jesenice east is closed for all vehicles bar those with local licence plates to reduce congestion through Jesenice.

Moreover, the Karavanke tunnel is also being closed periodically in the opposite direction of Austria for safety reasons.

In Šentilj, the tailback on the motorway is now some 8 kilometres long, while the local road is also congested.

Congestions are also reported on Ljubljana's western and southern ring road sections, as well in some parts of the Primorska motorway in the direction of Ljubljana.
