Slovenia observes Primorska reunification day

VIPAVA - A number events are being held this weekend to mark 77 years since the western region of Primorska was united with the rest of the Slovenian territories under the Paris Peace Treaties following 20 years of Italian rule, with the main event taking place in Vipava today with Prime Minister Robert Golob delivering the keynote. Govt ready to help flood-stricken Central European countries

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian government announced after several Central European countries had been hit by severe floods that it will make an immediate response if any of the affected countries requested international assistance. It said on X that Slovenia will respond without hesitation because "we still remember their help" during the disastrous floods that hit Slovenia last August. . The Slovenian Caritas has meanwhile already started collecting aid for the affected countries.

Slovenia records drop in CO2 and PM10 emissions in 2022

LJUBLJANA - In 2022, Slovenia produced 3.2% less carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and 9.1% less PM10 emissions compared to 2021, the Statistics Office announced. CO2 emissions decreased from 13.1 million to 12.7 million tonnes. However, emissions from households rose by 6.6%, making up 25.6% of the total CO2 emissions in 2022. CO2 emissions fell in some sectors, notably in electricity, gas, and steam supply, and in manufacturing, while surging by 33% in transportation and storage.

SG Automotive returns to profitability

SLOVENSKE KONJICE - SG Automotive, a medium-sized Slovenian automotive industry supplier, returned to profitability in 2023 after still operating at a loss in 2022 after a compulsory settlement. The company posted revenue of EUR 18.6 million and a net profit of EUR 970,000, compared to a net loss of over EUR 300,000 in 2022. The positive development is due to new clients and increased profitability of existing products, directors Matjaž Zgaga and Klaus Schuster say in the 2023 annual report.

Switzerland's Teichmann wins WTA 125 tournament in Ljubljana

LJUBLJANA - Switzerland's Jil Teichmann is the winner of the Zavarovalnica Sava Ljubljana women's tennis tournament as part of the WTA 125 series as she defeated Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain in the finals in straight sets 7:6 and 6:4. Exhibition on Allied bombings in Slovenia on display in Pivka
