The future of Slovenian agriculture is inseparably tied to a successful renewal of generations, said Čalušić. "The support for young farmers is key as they represent the foundation for a long-term sustainable and competitive agriculture," she said.

The age structure and the challenges young farmers face require a comprehensive approach that includes education, innovation and support for the rural areas, the minister said.

She stressed the importance of close ties between Slovenia and its minority communities in neighbouring countries. The Agriculture Ministry has been working with Slovenian minority agricultural organisations in the Agraslomak coordination, which allows for the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practice.

"Close cooperation with neighbouring countries in agriculture and forestry brings many advantages, such as shared projects, sustainable development, increasing competitiveness and strengthening the social ties between farmers," Čalušić said.

Arčon thanked the Slovenian World Congress, which organised the conference, for the years of work in many areas and for connecting Slovenians abroad with the homeland.

He said he understood the importance of Slovenians abroad. "The importance of agriculture, working the land, is something I learned from them."

Arčon stressed the exchange of experiences and praised the Slovenian model farm in Felsőszölnök in Hungary. A similar farm is being constructed in Gorski Kotar, Croatia, the minister said.

This year's conference focused on the key challenges for the future of agriculture and forestry home and abroad, including young farmers, development of rural areas and adapting to climate change. Agricultural and forestry projects were also presented.
