Damage from Earthquake on National Heritage Monuments Estimated at 7.5 million German Marks

Ljubljana, 22 April - EARTHQUAKE/DAMAGE
A group of experts estimated the damage on the national heritage monuments caused by an earthquake at nearly SIT 700 million (app. 7.5 million D-marks), the Culture Ministry said Wednesday. The earthquake with magnitude 8 according to the Mercalli scale with an epicenter near the town of Kobarid about 20 kilometers east of the Slovene-Italian border struck Slovenia and parts of Italy at 12:56 local time on 12 April. The earthquake-struck region was visited a few days ago by a group of experts of the National Heritage Office, Restoration Centre, the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage of Nova Gorica and the Gorizia Museum.
