Nova Gorica hosts meeting of Slovenian cultural organisations
Nova Gorica, 29 November - Nova Gorica hosted on Friday a meeting of umbrella organisations of Slovenian cultural associations from Slovenia and neighbouring countries. The meeting was dedicated to the presentation of different associations and the possibilities for the strengthening of cooperation.
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen the once-strong cooperation, said Maja Jerman Bratec, head of the Organisation of Cultural Associations of Slovenia.
Many cooperation activities have been launched in the past for the transfer of best practice, said State Secretary at the Office for Slovenians Abroad Vesna Humar, advocating for such a coordination to be created in the culture sector.
A good example of an existing cooperation is AGRO-SLOMAK, bringing together the Slovenian minority agricultural organisations in all four neighbouring countries, and a recently launched economic cooperation, said Humar. A coordination to bring together sporting organisations will be founded soon, she said.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all umbrella cultural organisations of the Slovenian minority in the neighbouring countries. Representatives from the cultural centres in Italy's Gorizia were also invited.
The European Capital of Culture project was also discussed at the meeting as Nova Gorica and Gorizia will be taking the title in 2025 under the slogan Go! Borderless.
The slogan was no chosen at random, said Neda Rusjan Bric, the artistic consultant for the project. "GO! means action, something alive, GO also stands for both Nova Gorica and Gorizia and the people living here identify with it. Borderless does not mean only a border in the physical sense but the limitlessness of the spirit and thinking," she said.
