Minority regrets cancellation of TV show in Austria
Vienna/Klagenfurt, 25 December - A weekly TV show on the Austrian public broadcaster ORF dedicated to the country's minorities has been cancelled and will be replaced with a monthly show in late January. Austrian MP and member of the Slovenian minority Olga Voglauer regrets the cancellation given what an important role it has played.
The show aired regularly for 35 years, with Voglauer saying it held tremendous significance for minorities in Austria. "It is a great shame that this format is being retired after 35 years."
The cancellation of Heimat, fremde Heimat (Motherland, Foreign Motherland) has been announced by the ORF on its website, following reports to this end by the newspaper Standard and the press agency APA.
The weekly show is to be replaced with a monthly show about minorities. However, no details are known as yet about the new show.
