Statistics Inseparable Part of EU Accession

Brussels, 24 July - Slovenia will have to correct its statistics legislation to align with the common EU legislation for statistics. Under the national programme for the adoption of acquis, final alignment with the Union's statistical system is expected until the end of 2002, but harmonization will need be hustled according to the National Statistical Office Director Tomaz Banovec because statistics form an integral part of most of the other areas that will be subject to negotiations. Banovec on Friday led the Slovene delegation for the bilateral screening of statistics legislation.
