Slovenia Completes Mandate in Security Council

New York, 1 January - UN/SC/SLOVENIA
The first day of the year 2000 marked the completion of a two year UN Security Council mandate which gave Slovenia the status of a temporary member since January 1, 1998. Slovenia was voted as the representative from Eastern Europe on 14 October 1997, when 140 countries voted for Slovenia from a total of 185 UN members. Replacing Slovenia as a non-permanent member will be the Ukraine.
