Review of Events Involving Slovenia 1 through 7 January

Ljubljana, 8 January - Slovenia entered the year 2000 with roaring celebrations, spared the feared millennium bug troubles. Slovene Ambassador to the United Nations Danilo Tuerk was appointed Assistant UN Secretary General for political affairs shortly after he left the Security Council at the end of Slovenia's two-year term. The mission in New York will now be headed by Tuerk's deputy Samuel Zbogar until the post is taken over by incumbent Foreign Ministry State Secretary Ernest Petric.
