EU Accession: A Challenge for Slovenia

Ljubljana, 28 January - A conference on the preparation of Slovene economy for the EU membership was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on Friday and brought together directors of numerous small and middle-sized Slovene companies as well as members of political and economic institutions participating in the process of accession. Slovenia started full membership negotiations with the EU in March 1998. Since then, the country has taken numerous steps to harmonise Slovene legislation with the acquis communautaire. However, some indicators show that Slovene companies are not yet sufficiently prepared for the EU membership.
