SLS to Cancel Contract With LDS and Merge with SKD

Krško, 28 January - Following the first round of Slovene Christian Democrats (SKD) executive council talks on Friday, the president of the party, Lojze Peterle, expressed satisfaction in regard to Thursday's statement from Janez Podobnik (SLS) which indicated that the Slovene People's Party (SLS) supports a future merger with the SKD. This is something that has not been clear up until now and it will soothe further talks between the 'spring' parties which include the SKD, SLS and the Slovene Democratic Party (SDS). The meeting was also attended by the SLS leader of the MPs group, Franc Zagozen, who stated that a merger with the SKD would mean the end of a contract with the LDS, which forms the current coalition government.
