Negotiations on Agriculture Between the EU and the Candidates to Open on Wednesday

Luxembourg, 13 June - The EU will launch talks on agriculture with six front-runners for EU membership on Wednesday in Luxembourg. Agriculture is one of the toughest chapters of legislation that Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, and Cyprus, the associate members which were invited to negotiations on full-fledged membership at the EU summit in Luxembourg in December 1997, will have to negotiate on with the 15-nation bloc. For Slovenia, agriculture is the last of a total of 29 chapters of the acquis that has not yet been opened.
