Defence Ministry Faces Another Scandal as Report of Intelligence Operation Is Leaked

Ljubljana, 14 June - Reports surfaced on Wednesday in certain Slovene media about a new scandal at the Defence Ministry which apparently involves the Slovene Intelligence Office (OVS) in what has been called the Sava scandal. The media reported that in the "operation Sava", individuals from the Slovene Intelligence Office co-operated with the U.S. Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) without a legal basis in the form of an agreement on co-operation between the agencies and also without the approval of the OVS Director Bojan Vavtar. The aim of the operation was said to be the collection of information on conditions in Yugoslavia, during which the DIA is said to have gained insight into all intelligence personnel at the OVS and the OVS network in Yugoslavia through DIA agent Mark Walderman.
