The 4th International Conference on Transition Opens

Ljubljana, 23 June - Slovene Minister of Economic Relations and Development Marjan Senjur in his opening speech at the 4th international conference on transition on Friday pointed to the asymmetry of motives for EU enlargement which is formed among the EU member states and the associated countries that are hoping to join Europe. Senjur stressed that Slovenia worked out a plan on its integration into the EU, and defined a timetable of individual steps in the accession process. The EU, however, has neither a plan nor an enlargement timetable nor a vision on the future form of the EU - whether it will be a federation, a confederation or something else, Senjur stressed. Vincent Piket, a delegate of the European Commission to Slovenia, also addressed the participants, saying that the EU enlargement was already in progress in line with the Agenda 2000.
