Women in Politics in the Eyes of the Media

Ljubljana, 3 July - The frequency of appearances by women in the Slovene media is much lower (27.3 percent) than that by men (72.7 percent), which largely depends on the choice of subjects and events which involved men. While women in Slovene media are more often shown in relation to family members (10.6 percent compared to 0.9 percent of men), men dominate in contributions on political and military subjects, show the findings of the international research Global Media Monitoring Project 2000, which was carried out in 70 countries, including Slovenia. The results of the research were presented at the second meeting of Slovene female town councilors in the Slovene parliament. The meeting, organised by the government Women's Policy Office and the parliamentary commission for the policy of equal opportunities, focused on women in politics in the eyes of the media.
