Electoral System Commission Fails to Endorse Proposal Filed by Centre-Left MPs

Ljubljana, 5 July - The Parliamentary Commission for the Electoral System and Constitutional Changes did not endorse the proposal filed by 28 centre-left lawmakers to begin a process for the change of article 80 of the constitution by which the proportional representation election system would be written in the constitution. The proposal failed to receive the required two-thirds majority as only eight lawmakers (from the Liberal Democracy (LDS), United List (ZLSD) and Pensioner's Party (DeSUS)) voted for it, while ten voted against (SLS+SKD, Social Democrats (SDS) and National Party (SNS)).
