Dnevnik Responds to the Latest Developments in the Ruling Coalition

Ljubljana, 24 July - The council of the Social Democratic Party (SDS) on Friday established that a confirmation referendum was the only way to mitigate the treacherous decision of the coalition partner to support constitutional changes and the voting system of proportional representation. The demand seems normal considering the fact that the Social Democrats have always much to say about people's will and violation of that will as well as the fact that the 1996 referendum on the voting system (more precisely: the result of the referendum as established by constitutional judges) was their greatest achievement so far. If the matter is examined more closely, it becomes clear that it is just another brilliant idea of SDS leader Jansa's how to create as chaotic situation as possible and how to drive his major rival on the right, Franc Zagozen, into a corner, Dnevnik writes in Monday's issue.
