International Conference on Europe at the Turn of the Millennium Opens at Bled

Bled, 28 July - An international conference sponsored by Slovene and Russian parliaments opened at the lakeside resort of Bled (northwest) Friday morning with addresses by National Assembly Speaker Janez Podobnik, Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vladimir Lukin and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Lord Russell-Johnston. The conference on on the topic "Europe at the Turn of the Millennium - Values and Conflicts", is expected to be addressed also by the speaker of the first democratically elected Slovene parliament, France Bucar, a former U.S. ambassador to Slovenia, Victor Jackovich, and Foreign Minister Lojze Peterle.
