Slovenia Allocates More Than 25 Percent of GDP for Social Welfare

Ljubljana, 31 July - The total of outgoings for social welfare amounted to SIT 863 billion (4 billion euro) in 1998, a rise of 30 percent over two years before. Outgoings for social welfare equalled 26.6 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), up 0.1 percentage point over 1997 and up 0.2 percentage point over 1996. EU member states, for instance, give out about 28 percent of their GDPs for social welfare, Marjana Klinar of the National Statistical Office said on Monday.
