European Symposium on Suicide to Begin on Wednesday

Ljubljana, 5 September - The lake-side resort of Bled will be host to the 8th European Symposium on Suicide and Suicidal Behaviour which is to begin on Wednesday and is to run under the title "Suicide Risk and Protective Factors in the New Millennium". The congress is being organised by the Centre for Mental Health, Ljubljana, and the arts and congress centre, Cankarjev Dom. According to the organisers this will one of the most important meetings of suicide prevention experts this year, and is expected to attract some 300 participants mostly from abroad. Slovenia falls among the countries with the highest suicide rate in Europe with 31 suicides per 100,000 persons, ranking it sixth among European countries.
