Verheugen's Statement Was Spoken in Good Faith, Says Slovenia's Chief Negotiator with the EU

Ljubljana, 5 September - Slovenia's chief negotiator with the EU and acting Director of the Government Office for European Affairs Janez Potocnik on Tuesday responded to European Commissioner Guenter Verheugen's statement regarding the "enlargement referendum" in the EU member states. Potocnik believes that the Commissioner made his statement in good faith, being aware of the attitude among the EU citizens who are not too inclined towards enlargement. The Slovene Foreign Ministry also reacted to Verheugen's statement by expressing satisfaction over determined support by EU member states and the European Commission for EU enlargement.
