FM Peterle to Write to His Austrian Counterpart about Ethnic Minority

Ljubljana, 11 September - MINORITY/SLOVENIA/AUSTRIA
The Slovene Foreign Ministry is worried over the recent appointment of several acting headmasters at bilingual primary schools who do not speak the Slovene language, a step taken by Carinthia's provincial government. The decision taken by the Governor General of Carinthia, Joerg Haider, speaks neither in favour of an open dialogue nor a settlement of the issues regarding the Slovene minority in Carinthia. Moreover, it is in opposition to what he has promised, for which reason Slovene Foreign Minister Lojze Peterle on Monday announced his plan to send a letter about the issue to his Austrian counterpart Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
