Danish Rejection of Euro Not to Affect EU Enlargement, Says Foreign Ministry

Ljubljana, 29 September - The Slovene Foreign Ministry expects that the negative result of Denmark's referendum on joining Europe's single currency will not have a direct negative influence on the EU enlargement process. Likewise, the referendum results will not affect the set goals of the Slovene government on integration into the EU. According to these, Slovenia should close accession negotiations in 2001 and be ready for membership by the end of 2002. According to these plans, Slovenia should join the EU in 2003, the Slovene Foreign Ministry wrote in a press release.
