EU Experts Give Unfavourable Estimate of BSE Risk in Slovenia

Ljubljana, 26 April - EU experts who are currently assessing countries outside of the EU for the potential presence of BSE, have estimated in the draft report that the presence of BSE in Slovenia is likely but not confirmed. The Slovene authorities have already expressed their disagreement with the estimate and mediated a commentary to the draft, in which they reiterated their disagreement with the assessment by providing additional information. That such an estimate is unacceptable for Slovenia was also expressed on Wednesday by European Affairs Minister Igor Bavcar in talks with Enlargement Commissioner Guenther Verheugen.
