Informal Association Appeals Against Unlawful Referendum on Violation of Human Rights

Ljubljana, 17 May - An informal association gathering various independent groups has brought to the attention of state institutions, including the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court the fact that a referendum scheduled for 17 June on a recently adopted law allowing single unmarried women to have in-vitro babies would "abuse a democratic procedure for the purpose of encroaching upon basic human rights". The Office for Interventions (UZI) is convinced that fundamental human rights cannot be subject to referendums.
