Slovenia Celebrates Slovene Armed Forces Day and 10th Anniversary of Independence War

Maribor, 18 May - Events in Pekre, on the outskirts of Maribor, ten years ago were the first armed tests of the decisiveness of Slovenia to defend and implement its decision on independence. They were also a sign of things to come at that time, during which Slovenia succeeded: it now stands as a mature and credible country, awaiting membership in the EU and NATO, said Slovene President Milan Kucan in Pekre on Friday, while addressing a celebration to mark the Slovene Armed Forces day and the tenth anniversary of the independence war.
