Referendum Outcome - No-Confidence Vote for Health Minister or "Pyrrhic Victory"?
Ljubljana, 18 June - While the opposition SDS and NSi, the two parties which gave the initiative to test a controversial infertility treatment act in referendum, consider the referendum outcome a victory of its own political orientation and a vote of no-confidence for Health Minister Dusan Keber, the coalition LDS, which put forward the amendment that also healthy single women could have test-tube babies, does not see it as a defeat. Moreover, given a very low election turnout (slightly over 35%), the proposers of the referendum are seen by Liberal Democrats as "Pyrrhic victors".
