Minister Rupel Launches Slovene Debate on the Future of the EU

Ljubljana, 11 July - "A European Union very likely to be recommendable and acceptable for Slovenia is the Union which will permit undisturbed life, and render possible the development of the Slovene nation as a nation. The notion of federation should not disturb us if it is about a federation of nation states which mantain their competencies in areas such as language, culture, education, the arts, etc. The EU could be called the United Nations of Europe or Nation States of Europe," said Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel in his address to the ambassadors from EU member states and candidate countries to Slovenia. His speech "The Future of Europe - Debate" has launched a broad public debate on the future of the EU.
