Assault on Journalist Petek Poses Threat to Freedom of Speech, President's Office Reiterates

Ljubljana, 15 October - JOURNALISM/PRESIDENT
The office of Slovene President Milan Kucan responded on Monday to a letter by the South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO), in which the organization expressed concerns over police investigation of an assault on a Slovene journalist last February. As was stated in a press release by the head of the president's office Peter Tos, President Kucan gave a public statement shortly after the incident, condemning the attack as "a threat to the freedom of speech and mechanisms of democracy".
