Government Proposes Only 0.5 Percentage Point Rise of Reduced VAT Rate

Ljubljana, 13 November - The government, which proposed on Sunday to raise the general VAT rate by one percentage point in 2002 in a bid to increase budget revenues, has now proposed to raise the reduced VAT rate by only half a percentage point. Thus, the reduced VAT rate, which stands at eight percent at present, is to total 8.5 percent as of 1 January 2002.
