Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 10 to 16 November

Ljubljana, 17 November - Slovene President Milan Kucan attended the 56th session ofthe UN General Assembly in New York that focussed on anti-terrorism, where he delivered a speech and held a number of bilateral meetings, including one with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, whom he invited to Slovenia. Kucan was accompanied to the U.S. by Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel who took the opportunity to hold a number of bilateral meetings and lobby for Slovenia's membership in NATO with a number of U.S. officials. NATO Secretary General George Robertson paid a one-day visit to Slovenia as part of his tour of NATO candidate countries, where he confirmed that NATO plans to expand. President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Rafael Estrella also visited Slovenia and assured that Slovenia was included in all scenarios discussed by the Assembly.
