Weekly Review of Slovene Economy from 10 to 16 November

Ljubljana, 18 November - The news was broken on Monday, 12 November, that a five-year old cow could be infected with BSE, something which was confirmed on Friday, 16 November, by additional tests carried out in Slovenia, while the suspicion of BSE presence is to be finally confirmed or rejected by tests carried out in a reference laboratory in Bern, Switzerland. Final results are expected to be known early next week.

Slovenia's fulfilment of economic criteria was assessed relatively positively in this year's European Commission's report on Slovenia's progress towards EU accession, released on Tuesday, 13 November.

The government spent last Sunday, 11 November, at Brdo Castle, some 15 km northwest of Ljubljana, amending the budget bills for 2002 and 2003.
