Slovene Medical Authorities Oppose Cloning of Humans

Ljubljana, 26 November - Cloning of human embryos would in the long run be a sacrifice and de-humanisation of human beings for the gain of others. Such application of bio-medicine would be against the respect of human life and dignity, said the chair of the Slovene commission for medical ethics, Joze Trontelj, on Monday, in regard to the news on the first successful cloning of a human embryo by U.S.A.'s Advanced Cell Technology Inc.. The Slovene Medical Chamber (ZZS) is firmly against the cloning of human embryos and thus in opposition of the EU directive that allows patenting of parts of human genome, said ZZS president Marko Bitenc, adding that ZZS does not oppose the patenting of procedures allowing a development of advanced healing therapies based on the constitution of the genome.
