Law-Makers Amend Law on Excise Taxes

Ljubljana, 27 November - The law on excise duties was amended and brought in line with EU standards on Tuesday in parliament, bringing about an increase of duties on beer and alcoholic drinks as well as speeding up the introduction of a higher excise duty rate on cigarettes as demanded by the EU. All the money from the rise in excise duties - a total of nearly 33 million euros until 2004 - will be earmarked for investments in the health sector.
