Bank of Slovenia not to Change Currency Policy Prior to EU Membership

Ljubljana, 28 November - The reason for lowering the Slovene currency by the Slovene central bank is not to achieve competitiveness of Slovene companies on the foreign markets, but to control the money aggregates that consequently influence consumption and inflation forecasts, said the council of the Bank of Slovenia (BS) on Wednesday. This comes in response to the report's assessment of Slovenia's inflation and implementation of strucutral reforms, according to which the Slovene monetary authorities should focus on the stability of prices instead of competition on foreign markets.
