Refugee and Asylum Policies in the Light of EU Accession Discussed in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 30 November - In a response to increasing pressure from refugees and asylum-seekers, the EU has in recent years adopted a number of measures, as well as minimal joint standards in the field of asylum and migrational policies. However, it should be pointed out that a fear exists that by doing away with internal borders, the Union has in fact begun the construction of some kind of a "fortress", a UNHCR official told a conference on migrational and asylum policies in countries on the periphery of the Schengen border and the Balkans.
