Weekly Review of the Slovene Economy from 22 to 28 December

Ljubljana, 30 December - The holiday-shortened week was marked by a new chapter in the battle of the brewers, with Belgian brewer Interbrew raising its takeover for Ljubljana-based brewer Pivovarna Union. Interbrew's Slovene-based "opponent" in the takeover battle, Pivovarna Lasko, came up with another suprise this week, announcing that it had sold a 13 percent stake in Union and thus does not exceed the 25 percent ownership barrier, despite last week's purchase of Union shares from the Slovene Reimbursement Company.
