Women are Victims of Violence, Not Family Disagreements

Ljubljana, 30 December - The Slovene police should be better trained and prepared for cases of violence against women, while changes to legislation dealing with this sensitive field are urgent, State Secretary for Family Affairs Alenka Kovsca recently told the press. According to Kovsca, who is also the head of the Women's Forum of the junior coalition party the United List (ZLSD), Slovenia lags behind Western European countries in its fight on violence against women. However, she remains hopeful, pointing to the unification of 13 government and non-government institutions into an expert council on this issue.
