Rupel Responds to Opposition to Slovenia's NATO Membership Voiced in Slovene Newspapers

Ljubljana, 4 February - "It seems that the opponents to Slovenia's entrance into NATO try to create a negative public mood that would dissuade NATO from seriously regarding Slovenia's candidacy," the Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel wrote on the Ministry's official Internet site on Monday. Rupel believes that it is particularly newspapers that overstress the opposing opinions and doubts regarding NATO membership which do not come from experts, leadership, nor coalition or opposition parties, and which do not reflect the mood of the majority.
