Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 2 February to 8 February

Ljubljana, 9 February - Slovenia was visited this week by a representative of a prominent U.S. research institution RAND that also assesses Slovenia's readiness to join NATO, while Slovene Armed Forces officials presented the Forces' activities in NATO accession. Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek concluded his attendance at the World Economic Forum in New York, where he also held a number of bilateral meetings. The situation of ethnic Slovenes in Italy took a turn for the worse, as mayors of four bilingual municipalities refuse to implement a decree by Italy's interior minister on issuing Italian identity cards only.
