Protection of Slovene Minority in Italy Discussed at the Council of Europe
Strasbourg/Trieste, 7 March - The safeguarding of the Slovene minority in Italy was on the agenda of the last session of the CoE human rights committee in Strasbourg, following a recent decree by the Italian interior minister which allows Italian IDs to be given out in some bilingual communities around Trieste where only bilingual IDs have been issued so far, a news report says. Meanwhile, the Slovene minority in Italy urged the Italian prime minister and German chancellor ahead of their Friday meeting to implement laws safeguarding ethnic minorities in Italy.
